Ilana Houten is a returnee to Michigan after a 25 year hiatus in New York. During those years, she pursued dance, art, and design, in whatever form came her way. Her current work as a sculptor focuses on societal hierarchy and the way it affects the individual, as well as the disenfranchising of those whose lives are deemed less valuable because of gender, race, or religion. In addition, because of the years Ilana spent away from her family, her work also explores familial bonds, inheritance, severance, origin, and identity. Ilana manages and co-owns Ypsi Alloy Studios.
